Panel Discussion on “Hearing
Loss in Children- Detection & Rehabilitation” at
Bengaluru
“Too much exposure to loud noise can
lead to a condition known as noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL),
said Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s consultant ENT Surgeon
Dr. A. K. Lahiri while delivering a lecture at Doctor’s
Conclave cum Seminar organized by Widex India. The theme of
the seminar was: “Hearing Loss in Children- Detection
& Rehabilitation”.
The panelist were: Renowned cricketer of
yesteryears & Brand Ambassador of Widex India Mr. Syed
Kirmani, Mr. T.S. Anand, Managing Director of Widex India;
Mr. Mike Dittmann, Export Manager Widex A/S; Dr. Rajesh Vishwakarma,
ENT Surgeon Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad; Dr. Ashish Mehta, Senior
Neonatologist & Ms.Rakhee Butala, Clinical Audiologist,
Cochlear Limited, Mumbai. The seminar was also well attended
by various teachers & parents of the hearing impaired
children. The aim of the seminar was to create mass awareness
about the causes & remedies of hearing impairment or hearing
loss in children and dispel the myths, misconceptions &
apprehensions about the same.
“Hearing aid plays a key role in rehabilitation
of children with hearing impairment. Several studies have
shown that the latest technology in Hearing Aids i.e. Digital
Signal Processing is very effective for individuals with post
lingual & acquired Hearing Impairment”, disclosed
Dr. Lahiri.
Hearing in children is as high as one in
every one thousand children. “In India, around 10,000
children are born with hearing impairment every year. If people
are made aware and the treatment is given at the early age,
this can be treated,” said T S Anand, Managing Director
of Widex India.
