An Awareness Rally on World Deaf
Day

The group of about 150 hearing-impaired children
who walked by the lakeside, Chandigarh on Sep. 26, 2007 took initiative
to promote their cause. They made a bold statement in the end defying
their own silence.
Organised in association with Widex, to create
awareness towards the needs of children with hearing impairment,
the event, marking World Deaf Day, successfully voiced the
problems of these special students and preventive measures
that need to be taken to fight deafness and muteness.
Students from Vatika High School for Deaf
and Dumb on their part conveyed their message through placards
and poster as they walked through the length to Sukhna Lake.
"The rally was extremely helpful in
getting the message across to people to send their children
with special needs to special schools."
To the general public, the message at the
rally was loud and clear - "We don't need sympathy but
equal opportunities". These special students went a step
ahead to express their concern about issues that not just
affect them but the whole world.
